Yogi in the Community: Nesanet Abegaze

Our Yogi in the Community this week is a beautiful Spirit inside and out. I met Nesanet through a mutual friend whom we both love and adore! Needless to say we realized very quickly that we are kindred Spirits who view the practice of yoga as a tool for change.

Hometown: Gondar, Ethiopia…I currently hang my hat in Los Angeles, CA

How long have you practiced yoga?

I’ve practiced on and off for 6 years-but began to really focus on my practice about 2 years ago.

Why do you practice yoga?

I practice yoga because it allows me to be in my body in a way that no other physical activity does. Equally important, yoga teaches me that there is stillness in movement and helps me stay grounded in the face of constant change.

How do you notice yoga in your daily routine?

Yoga to me is much more than my asana practice…it includes my meditation practice, my attempt (and I do mean attempt) to be mindful in my speech, diet, and my approach to relationships. In the fast-paced world of digital marketing, yoga is my anchor-a place that invites me to go inside and celebrate the joy that lives within. I taught yoga at Earth Day in South L.A. this year, and feel honored to bring yoga to youth in the community. I have dreams of conducting yoga workshops in Ethiopia in the near future.
